Final Major Project
For my 'Final Major Project' I've kept on track of the educational field and decided to dedicate a book to children all about world culture. I have absolutely loved putting this book together and I've learnt a lot along the way. Of course, there is room for improvement, but for my first attempt at something like this I was pleased with the result.
Here are a few pages from my book, including the front and back cover.
The book is about a little boy named Toby who wants to be just like his grandad and travel all over the world on a big adventure. Each page of the book is dedicated to a specific country and includes liftable flaps for an interactive experience with questions for the child to answer along the way.
The next step for me now is to see about getting it published! No harm in trying! Fingers crossed!

Egyptian activity pack
So this is what I've been working on, which is one of the two bigger
projects towards the end of my degree. I wanted to create an activity
pack for children which could be used in schools. My aim was to create
something that would be fun, educational and would provide all the
materials a teacher would need - information, worksheets, activity
sheets and a disc which would include a PowerPoint presentation.
I dedicated a blog to this project specifically which you can view here . It explains all the ins and outs of the project and the thought process behind it.
This is one of the worksheets I designed, teaching children about the steps of the mummification process. Previous to this they will have sat through a short PowerPoint presentation where they will have received all the info and discussed with their classmates the important steps that should be taken to make a mummy. After this, a card game is played to match up the body parts (also shown below) and then the words are filled in on this sheet.
One of the slides from a PowerPoint presentation...
How my worksheets started out originally. Although I was pleased with them, they had far too much information to absorb for the age range I was working with, so I decided to amend them.
The packing, which was fun to make! I used paper mache, gold paint and bandages dipped in coffee

EIGHT months since I've updated...!
Wowww! An update is LONG overdue! I last posted almost 8
months ago! Shocking.
So what’s been going on? I’ve finished my degree! I’m
waiting on my results now and keeping my fingers crossed that I have ‘atleast’
a 2.1 coming my way. I can definitely say I tried my best.
Since I last posted, I’ve completed two main uni projects and
done some personal work also, which I’ll get to.
During these months I’ve had to do a lot of future
planning/thinking and making decisions on what it is I want to do and think
about how I’m going to get there. At the same time, being realistic.
My dream is to be a children’s illustrator – books, apparel and that kind of thing really interests me. As a children’s book illustrator, I’m very aware that I have a long way to go, but I do believe I’m capable of getting to that place where I feel I could go on to approach agencies and publishers with my work.
Whilst I’ve been figuring out the next step for myself in terms of my future career plans, I’ve been incorporating my work, giving it an educational meaning. I’ve been interested in teaching for a while now, and so I decided to target my last few degree projects around the teaching environment, creating an educational activity pack as well as a educational book, which children can learn from and they can do so in a fun way. (I’ll post these in separate blog entries)

So myself as of now…I’m currently absorbing inspiration from
all around me and wanting to do something for myself – a self set project with
no deadlines attached where I can explore my drawing style and not have to
worry about getting it handed in on-time. Sounds good to me!
So, let’s show you what I’ve been up to!

A little bit of Black Magic!
It feels like it's been a lonnnng time! Over a month since I last posted. I've been really busy with uni work, working on a project I'm doing for kids based on Ancient Egypt (which I'll be posting about here soon!)
In the mean time, a few weeks ago I did a little side project. I made a costume piece for a voodoo/ Black Magic themed party!
Made from Sculpey Clay, feathers, wire, reeds and finished off with acrylics
